We are pleased to welcome Norsk Hydro as a corporate member of the Norwegian Chamber of Commerce in Michigan as the company continues to grow its footprint in our state.
Hydro is one of Norway’s largest export companies in the United States and a leading aluminum and energy company building partnerships for a more sustainable future.
Hydro is the largest Norwegian company in Michigan, employing about 200 people across three sites: a state-of-the-art aluminum recycling plant in Cassopolis that opened on November 16, 2023 with capacity to produce 120,000 metric tonnes of extrusion ingot per year, the Hydro Aluminum Technology Center in Cassopolis, and Innovation & Technology Americas in Troy, which serves as the North American location for Hydro’s global R&D team.
Hydro’s Michigan footprint continues to grow through new partnerships and research activity. In October 2025, Hydro and the University of Michigan launched a five-year, USD 2.5 million research partnership to advance aluminum recycling and next-generation extrusion alloys. The program focuses on enabling higher recycled-content materials without sacrificing performance, supporting mobility and other U.S. manufacturing supply chains.
Globally, Hydro is a leading aluminum and renewable-energy company with about 32,000 employees in more than 140 locations and 42 countries. Its strategy emphasizes low-carbon aluminum, circularity, and industrial partnerships that move new technology from lab to factory.
